The Arts Council’s Musical Instruments for Bands Grant has opened!!!

Deadline for applications is 4pm on 31st May 2012

Decisions by 17th August 2012

This is a tight turnaround time and the application has to be accompanied by a number of policies, quotes and attachments.

 

The Ulster-Scots Community Network in conjunction with the Confederation of Ulster Bands, Orange Community Network & RSPBA (NI) are hosting  3 informal information sessions as follows –

Wed 9th May – YMCA, Drumahoe 8.00pm

Wed 9th May – Island Centre, Lisburn 8.00pm

Thurs 10th May – Royal Hotel, Cookstown 8.00pm

The format of these will incorporate an overview of the scheme, guidance on filling out the form, help with the attachments required as well as providing handouts for further reference. It is anticipated the event will  last for approximately 1.5 hours, with tea/coffee also being provided.

North Antrim Bands Forum Created

North Antrim Bands Forum Created

On Thursday 1st December a number of band members from North Antrim came together to discuss the needs of marching bands in the area and the possibility of setting up a bands forum.

The following bands had representatives in attendance. POTP Armoy, Ballymaconnelly SOC, Crown Defenders Cloughmills, Eden Acc, Dunloy Acc, Dunaghy FB and Bushside FB

Those in attendance received a presentation from Valerie Quinn, Chairperson of the Confederation of Ulster Bands (CUB) on the present situation regarding bands and band forums throughout NI. She explained that there now exists 16 local band forums under CUB and each have two representatives feeding in.

Funding Workshops in Omagh

Diane Dodds MEP has been hosting a number of workshops throughout Northern Ireland over the past few months. Diane has launched a comprehensive guide to funding opportunities for community groups and non-profit organisations through the UK and the EU.

Now it’s coming to County Tyrone, the first workshop of the year will be held in the Silverbirch Hotel in Omagh, on the 26th of January at 7:45pm. If you are involved in a community group,or other organisations such as churches, bands or lodges, please plan to attend.

Balmoral Review Invitation – UCC

The Joint Unionist Centenary Committee has announced the date of the event being held to mark the fight against Home Rule prior to the signing of the Ulster Covenant – now known as the Balmoral Review.

The Committee would like to commemorate this great event by holding a parade to a venue in south Belfast and have at that venue a celebration of our culture as well as plenty for the family to do.
